Glimmer Rejen Shrimp Step-by-Step:
The Glimmer Rejen (or Glitter Shrimp) is a popular Danish pattern traditionally used to target Sea Trout during the cooler months. Simple and effective, it is believed that the flash draws the attention of lethargic fish in these colder conditions.
While an international flight stands between me and the nearest Danish Estuary, this fly has obvious applications beyond its original intent.
Tied here on a saltwater-grade Gamakatsu SC15, I’m confident this flashy, unweighted shrimp will quickly prove its worth as both an option on the shallow flats and when targeting dock lights.

Tips and Tricks
- Color Selection – While I selected white for the tutorial above with the intention of targeting speckled trout over dock lights, I plan to build a box containing this pattern in White, Tan, Pink & Blurple (Black & Purple). Consider all four depending on where and how you plan to fish this fly.
- Marabou vs Bucktail – When I first stumbled across this pattern, the example I found was tied with a marabou tail as shown. Traditionally, however, this tail is generally tied with bucktail. Consider tying a few with both if time allows and see which the fish prefer in your area.
- Weight Optional – Traditionally an unweighted pattern, I intend to tie at least a few of these with underbody of Lead-free wire. I often blind cast small shrimp patterns into moving water during the cooler months and believe the Glimmer Rejen will be an excellent addition to that arsenal. Add fewer or more wraps depending how quickly you’d like the fly to get down. And…don’t forget to center the wraps mid-shank. This will help to keep the fly from diving nose or tail first.
Proof of Concept
With spring just around the corner, the Glimmer Rejen will soon be making its way onto my tippet. Dock lights will be heating up, and I’m confident that more than a few species will be happy to help me prove this pattern’s worth.

Tight Line!
