Admittedly a little jet lagged following a long weekend in upstate New York, I’ll be taking a week off from the Fly Tying tutorials and instead wanted to highlight a few upcoming events. For those who subscribe solely for the tutorials, I assure you we’ll be back to weekly tutorials beginning next Thursday (9/29/2022).
In the interim though, here are a few upcoming events to keep in mind.
Flies & Flights (Rally Cap Brewing; 09/21/2022)
We’re back for another round at Rally Cap Brewing beginning this evening at 7pm. This event continues to grow month to month with folks coming from as far as Lafayette, New Orleans and even Pensacola (admittedly family) in August.
We’ll have spare vises and tools available for those new to tying and won’t even expect you to wear a blindfold as Brian and I did in the video below.

CENLA National Hunting & Fishing Day (LDWF Woodworth Outdoor Education Center; 09/24/22)
If you find yourself in central Louisiana this Saturday morning, be sure to stop by the LDWF Woodworth Outdoor Education Center. Members of the Kisatchie Fly Fishers will be there offering tying demos, casting instruction and more.

Acadiana Open Fly Tying Night (Acadiana Fly Rodders; 09/29/22)
Once again, the folks at Pack & Paddle and the Acadiana Fly Rodders, will be teaming up to host Acadiana Open Fly Tying Night at the Pack & Paddle Outpost (behind the main shop).
This month, Ron Begnaud will be the groups featured tyer. Ron plans to demonstrate a Strong Armed Crab pattern to kick the evening off. After that, be prepared to tie your own favorite patterns as the Open Tying portion of the night begins.

A reminder about good cause: CRAFF-ACPM’s 2022 Fundraiser (Ends 10/15/22)
Just a quick reminder about a good cause.
The Costa Rica Association of Fly Fishers (CRAFF-ACPM) 2022 Fundraiser ends in just over two week. Be sure to check them out if you have yet to contribute.
A non-profit dedicated to conservation and fly fishing education, CRAFF is currently seeking donations to help with the initiation of their fly fishing education program including the construction of a casting pond.
An ambitious and worthwhile undertaking, CRAFF is sweetening the pot for potential donors with the prospect of winning one of two great prizes!

- Those donating at least $50 will be entered into a drawing for a custom Bamboo Rod from Brandileone Rods.
- Those donating $100 will also be entered in a second drawing for a 3-day (2 days Bluewater/1 day River) fishing trip for 3 Anglers!
The fundraiser will run through October 15, 2022, so be sure to contribute here if you’d like to support a great cause and have the chance to win a pair of great prizes.
NOFF’s 13th Annual Rio Grande Fly Fishing Rodeo (10/01/2022)
I plan to highlight this event in a bit more detail as part of next week’s Fly Tying Step-by-Step, but wanted to make sure I included this event in this week’s post as well.
Slatted for the morning of October 1st, this New Orleans Fly Fisher hosted Rodeo is open to all fly fishers and aims to target the invasive Rio Grande Cichlids found throughout New Orleans waterways. With prizes awarded for both the longest and most Rios harvested, this is a great event for anglers of all skill levels. More info is available at the link below:

I think that about covers things for now. Hope to see many of you at one or more of the events above! And, please be sure to check out the CRAFF fundraising link! They’re a great group of anglers doing excellent work to further the sport of fly fishing and support conservation.
Until next time. Tight lines!
Chris
